Why Should the Kids have all the Fun?
Written by Stacy Landry for the September Newsletter.
One week of school has come and gone and the joys that accompany it have come as well. I have noticed that after a short summer the kids are still having a hard time adjusting to thinking. It seems that their brains are taking longer to engage in the thinking process for school, but they are adjusting. Stacia is enthused as well as nervous about this new grade. Belinda is enthused yet nervous about her new classes at seminary. But all-in-all, they are enjoying it as am I. It is great to help them with their schoolwork and learn together with them, yes, I am amazed at what I can learn from 4th grade English, math, science and social studies.
Learning something new thrills me, especially if it is something from God’s Word, which is more important than anything else that I study. To me it is fun digging into God’s Word, discovering a new lesson that He has for me to learn each day. I get excited discovering His love, mercy and grace for me each day and the eternal reward that awaits me in heaven. I figure, “Why should the kids have all the fun learning something new?”
This is my message for you today, just as school has started in our household and many others, I pray that you will remember to study God’s Word. That you will join us at Sunday School, Wednesday Nights or in a small group that meets each week. These are opportunities for you to dig into God’s Word and enjoy learning from God’s Word just like the Bereans did in Acts: “Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” (Acts 17:11, NIV)
Studying God’s Word holds us together through everyday life. It keeps our feelings and faith in balance. Here is a little poem for you:
Three men were walking on a wall.
Feeling, Faith, and Fact.
When Feeling got an awful fall,
Then Faith was taken back.
So close was Faith to Feeling,
That he stumbled and fell too,
But Fact remained and pulled Faith back,
And Faith brought Feeling too.
See you all at Sunday School or Wednesday Night Bible Study or at one of our small groups.
