RESOURCES:

Music: Music helps focus, and often aids in connecting with your purpose for prayer. Here are some options if you don’t already have your own playlist to have playing in the background while you pray.

Scripture: Using scripture helps us tap into God’s design for prayer using his word to us as a starting place. Scripture can be used as a starting place but can also be used as our prayers themselves. You can use any scripture that connects you to the Lord. If you aren’t sure which scriptures to use here are some suggestions.
Psalm 65:1-2
What mighty praise, O God, belongs to you in Zion. We will fulfill our vows to you, for you answer our prayers. All of us must come to you.

2 Chronicles 32:7
Be strong and courageous! Don’t be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria or his mighty army, for there is a power far greater on our side!

Enter: Scripture sets the tone for prayer by inviting us to enter into his presence with thanksgiving. As we set the tone for our time in prayer with the Lord we are practicing gratitude and firstly looking at the value of the one we are speaking with which prepares us mentally and spiritually in the way we are going to be speaking with him. You can do this any way you see fit but if you aren’t sure where to start read through all of Psalm 100 and/or Psalm 116 out loud

Prayer: *** We would like to ask that prayers during this day of prayer be specifically oriented toward the current affairs of our world, the impact Saybrook Christian Church can have during this time, and your (your families) role in continued Kingdom work now and in the weeks/months to come.
Pray as the Lord leads you OR you can read through the prayers and topics below. Spend more time on the ones that interest and speak to your heart. Follow the Lord’s direction and don’t forget to listen. Listen to what the Lord wants you to pray about and teach you.

If you read and pray through the material here and still have time left, start over or repeat the prayers that resound in your spirit.

Opening Prayer (sample)
Father, I stand in awe of the many ways You provided for us to come before Your throne. I readily admit that I haven’t been using all the resources available to me, and I want that to change today.
With this prayer, I open my entire spiritual life and being to new and better ways by which I can approach you. Lord, I ask you to show me the various instruments and weapons You want me to utilize in my relationship with You.
Most of all, Father, I want to be Your instrument, doing Your will by my prayers. Please show me how Lord. I open myself now in Jesus’ Name. Amen. (Dick Leggatt, President, DPM-USA)

The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. - Galatians 5:22-25 NKJV

The Lord’s model prayer;
Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. - Matthew 6:9-13 NKJV

Sample prayer (based on the prayer of Jehoshaphat)
2 Chron. 20:6-12, 21 “O Lord, God of our ancestors, you alone are the God who is in heaven. You are ruler of all the kingdoms of the earth. You are powerful and mighty; no one can stand against you! O our God, did you not drive out and displace those who lived in this land when your people arrived? And did you not give this land forever to the descendants of your friend Abraham, that You grafted in by Your great love and mercy? Your people say, ‘Whenever we have faced any calamity such as war, plague, or famine, we have come and stood in your presence as your people, living temples of the Holy Spirit where your name is honored. We can cry out to you to save us, and you will hear us and rescue us.’ “And now see what the armies of evil and unrighteousness are doing. You would not let our ancestors invade those nations when Israel left Egypt, so they went around them and did not destroy them. Now see how they reward us! For they have come to throw us out of your land, they are rising up to enslave Your people, exalting unrighteousness and sin. O Lord our God, won’t you stop them? We are powerless against this mighty army that is about to attack us. We do not know what to do, but we are looking to you for help. And just “As all the men of Judah stood before the Lord with their little ones, wives, and children, the Spirit of the Lord came upon one of the men standing there. May Your Spirit come upon us, speak to us and guide us. You told them; This is what the Lord says: Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. We believe the battle raging in and over us is not ours but Yours! Tell us, show us where to take our positions and then stand still and watch the Lord’s victory. We believe You are with us. We do not need to be afraid or discouraged. We can go out against them, for the Lord is with us as You were with the nation of Israel! “On the way Jehoshaphat stopped and said, “Listen to me, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Believe in the Lord your God, and you will be able to stand firm. Believe in his prophets, and you will succeed. “After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the Lord and praising him for his holy splendor. This is what they sang: “Give thanks to the Lord; his faithful love endures forever!” Father we lift our voices and Thanks be to God for Your faithful love endures forever Praise be to the God of heaven!!
Sample Prayer (for our nation)
Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, we come to You in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, redeemed by His blood, committed to serve and follow Him. We come to You as Your believing people; Your representatives in this earth, the agents of Your government in the earth. We lift up to You this nation of ours, the United States. We thank You for many centuries of special grace and mercy that You have granted to this nation. We thank You for the godly seeds that have been sown over the centuries by men and women of faith who have followed in Your footsteps—labored, sacrificed, prayed and given for Your kingdom.
Lord, we desire that these godly seeds develop into a harvest that shall be reaped for Your purposes. We ask You to extend Your grace and mercy to this nation. We ask You to send a mighty visitation of the Holy Spirit that will overthrow the strongholds of satan and uplift and glorify the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. We ask You for a mighty floodgate of spiritual revival that will sweep across this nation, casting down everything that opposes itself against the knowledge of God.
We commit to You now specifically the forthcoming elections and all of the political processes involved. We take our stand in Jesus’ name against every satanic principality and power that would seek to exercise control in these elections. We break their power; we release the elective and the governmental processes from their control, and we put them in your hands. We pray that You will guide. That You will raise up the men and women of Your choice; put down those who will oppose and stand against Your purposes, and bring Your purposes to fulfillment in this nation.
We also pray, Lord, for the relationship of the United States to Israel. That You will keep Your hand upon it and that You will also guide to the benefit of Israel. That this nation will not turn against Israel or take its stand among the enemies of Israel. That You will graciously use this nation continually to support and uphold Your people, Israel, and their state.
Lord, we ask all these things, believing them to be your will and believing them to be for Your glory, in the precious all-prevailing name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Savior. Amen. (adapted from Derek Prince, 1980)
